Proximity

Tonight the air is bitter,

yet supple.

How strange to think,

as I stand here

in this holy silence,

that if I got in my car

and drove five hours

I’d be in the fourth largest city

in the world.

Strange, because here

among the wild water,

stony woodlands and starry sky,

I exist in another world

entirely.
